I have the privilege of living right in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia where AIM ministers, so much of my role is exercised in just living out my everyday life alongside our neighbors and ministry partners here. I try to understand and meet the needs of our neighbors and fellow ministers so that I can setup the ministry details of each trip, and bridge the gap between the churches that come to serve here, and the local Philly churches who we serve. I also try to help prepare the groups that are coming with the logistical and ministry details that they need to know to feel prepared for their time here, and to be able to be sensitive to the culture and effective in their ministry while they are here.
I love the people of Philadelphia dearly, especially the kids! Im so thankful that my role with AIM lets me be hands on in ministry the majority of the time. It truly is a privilege to get to live in Philly, and to daily be a part of what God is doing there to transform lives and ultimately transform the city for Him!
My first experience with AIM was when I was 16 years old, and went as a participant on a trip to Matamoros, Mexico. I knew that I was called to missions, and AIM helped pave the way for me to follow that call. After a summer internship with AIM in Philly, I was certain that that was where God was calling me to upon the completion of college. Ive lived and served in Philly for 5 years now, and am blessed and amazed to have seen God do so much work in the city, in the youth that have come on trips here, and in myself during that time.
God blessed me by giving me to parents who prayed for me before I was even born, and who have taught me, blessed me and who gave my life over to God from the beginning. Their obedience to God in surrendering my life to Him spurred me on throughout my life to do the same. I accepted Christ at a young age, and God surrounded me with a loving family and church body that brought me up to know Him. My independent personality certainly could have taken me another direction had God not consistently brought the right people into my life at the right time. (My mom has always joked that she knew before I was born that I would either be a missionary or a criminal!)
I grew up in Ohio, and other than going away to school at Geneva College in Pennsylvania, lived there for my whole life before I moved to Philadelphia. Its exciting that God has allowed me to start my missionary journey right out of college, and to be able to anticipate all that He still holds for me in the future! |
