Romans 10:9-10 (NLT) "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved." In a time when the Roman emperors were considered gods, the simple statement "Jesus is Lord" was a bold declaration with profound personal and cultural implications. We believe that this is still true today. Declaring ourselves to be followers of Jesus Christ and subjects in his kingdom impacts every area of our lives. We recognize that there are a diversity of opinions and interpretations among the followers of Jesus. But we also believe that there are certain foundational truths that define orthodox Christianity. We hold to these truths with all that we are, without apology. We believe that these truths are expressed most simply and succinctly in the ancient creeds. And so we find ourselves in unity with millions of Christ-followers who have affirmed their faith for centuries in the words of The Apostles' Creed:
